Phantom token to arrive in January? 👀

Rumors of an upcoming token airdrop from popular wallet provider Phantom have circulated via top influencers on social media - though the existence of an upcoming token has yet to be officially confirmed.

These influencers posted roughly similar tweets at the same time, encouraging users to claim their Phantom usernames - a new feature of the Phantom wallet - and interact with their posts to receive Phantom tokens, rumored to launch in January.

Whilst these posts have garnered significant attention, no evidence has been provided that a token is on the way. Phantom have yet to issue a statement, leaving the validity of these rumours unclear.

User error sees $500k Pudgy NFT loss 😱

An unknown Pudgy Penguins NFT collector has sold 5 of his NFTs – worth well over $500,000 USD – for just $35 USD each, yielding a loss of half a million dollars.

Taking place in the early hours of December 31, reactions from the community initially suspected that the user had failed to double-check which currency was being used for the sale. Each NFT was listed for 35 USDC, whereas 35 ETH would have been a high price, but a much more realistic figure.

Suspicion quickly arose when it was found that all five NFTs were snapped up by the same buyer. Rumours suggest that this wallet could also be owned by the seller, with the sale being evidence of tax loss harvesting, ahead of the end of 2024.

Abstract Pepes to mint in January 🐸

Noted web3 artist and entrepreneur @gmhunterart has announced that Abstract Pepes, the first pepe-based NFT collection on the Abstract blockchain, will arrive in January 2025.

Inspired by @batzdu‘s Geometric Pepes and @jackbutcher‘s Opepen Edition, the Abstract Pepes NFT collection will – in Hunter’s words – look to “capure [sic] the essence of crypto culture”.

OG holders of Hunter’s existing Primitives NFT collection will get first access to Abstract Pepes, following by a “selected group of @base frens’ collections”, which includes the likes of re:generates, the Museum of Based Art, and Based Nakamigos.
